Multiple dredging works

To ensure the continuous development of the port, several dredging projects of the Daugava riverbed have been carried out in the last decade, in order to allow the entry of large vessels with deep draft into the port. Dredging was carried out in 2012, 2016 and 2018 by “Rīgas Pasažieru termināls” Ltd. cooperating with the Freeport of Riga Authority.

The number of serviced cruise ships is expected to increase significantly in Riga Passenger Port in the next ten years. The aim of the company is to almost double the number of cruise ships and their passengers, developing Riga as an important port for cruise and passenger ferries in the Baltic Sea region.

While in 2018 75 000 cruise passengers were served in the port of Riga, this number is expected to increase to almost 160 000 by 2030. To achieve that berth at least 600 m in length and modern passenger service infrastructure should be considered, to allow establishment of Riga Passenger Port as a place where cruises start and end – a cruise ship home port.
